Sunil Gupta “attended college in Montreal. In the mid-1970s he lived in New York, where he encountered the Gay Liberation Movement. He moved to England in the late 70s to study photography at the West Surrey College of Art & Design and at the Royal College of Art in London until 1983. In his work as a photographer, writer and curator he critiques attitudes toward same sex relationships in India and raises awareness not only of homophobia but also of issues around the life of HIV positive people. In 1992, Gupta set up the Organisation for Visual Arts (OVA), to promote a greater understanding of culturally diverse practises in the visual arts, as an Iniva franchise; in 2006, the OVA archive was donated to the Iniva library. Gupta currently lives in London.”
